Tomahawk & lobster combo – Morton’s of Chicago

Morton’s of Chicago has been on my celebration dinner list since ages ago because of the numerous good reviews and their famous personalized anniversary/birthday menus. Should be a romantic dating spot but I was there for their latest seasonal menu with a bunch of friends and I don’t see why not.

I had mixed feelings, both excited and a bit anxious, about this dinner as it was my first ever Morton’s experience. Couldn’t help taking photos of their simplistic entrance with black and white tiles on the floor.

The décor inside is simply classy and elegant. With the iconic harbour view and their dim lights, it’s not difficult to understand why it’s a popular restaurant for celebrations.

Have heard so much good about their onion bread and man this is really delicious. S
erved fresh off the oven, it was sweet and fluffy. Even better when eaten with the wonderful butter. We finished the whole thing in 10 minutes despite the massive size.

Hearts of palm salad was another great and healthy appetizer that’s full of veggies and fruits. Hearts of palm was a bit sour and the texture was very close to that of bamboo shoots. All the ingredients were also thoroughly mixed and coated with their tangy and creamy dressing.

US Tomahawk 32 oz made everyone go wow when it was served. It’s just GIGANTIC and very photogenic (size-wise)! Perfectly cooked to medium rare, the steak was juicy, tender and smoky. No way it was enough to share among 6 person and luckily we got 2!

Renowned for their steak around the globe, Morton’s handles seafood well too. Whole baked Maine lobster 2lb were just equally delicious. These babies were loaded with roe, sweet and slightly briny. So yummy that no one even bothered to chat while eating.

Of course we could not forget the sides, other stars that make Morton’s shine.

Parmesan & truffle matchstick fries was the BOMB! Every single piece was full of cheese and truffle flavour while being extremely crispy.

The sauteed button mushrooms themselves were huge and buttery but more seasoning was needed. Creamed spinach was as fatty and sinful as it looked. A must-order side to go with your steak.

After devouring all the savoury dishes, we went all-in and ordered 3 desserts so that we could have a try of all the restaurant’s signatures. And come on, there’s always another stomach for dessert right? ;)

You gotta be quick when having soufflé, especially when you are having one of this size. We quickly snapped a few shots and before digging in. It was light and pillowy but a tad too bitter. Probably it’s the Grand Marnier and desserts are seldom too sweet for me.

I would have expected the centre of Morton’s Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake to ooze like most lava chocolate cakes out there but it didn’t. Well the centre was gooey and the cake was very chocolatey. Not a big surprise but still palatable.

Homemade New York style cheesecake was fluffy and airy. Textures and flavours of that brûlée layer and cream cheese went so well that it easily became my favourite dessert among the three.
