So
my brunch adventure continues and here’s my review for Petition Kitchen, a
place I pass by almost every time I visit CBD.
Located
in the State Buildings that is well preserved and redeveloped, Petition Kitchen
has that classical Victorian façade to welcome its customers.
The
interior and ambience within was just as pleasing and elegant as the entrance,
which made this place a perfect spot for having booze even during brunch or lunch
hours.
Began the meal with a flat white, my all-time favourite but this one was just mediocre.
Not
that of a great start but luckily the food was a nice save.
Heritage
tomato salad, burrata, pickled onions (AUD$18, came with toasted sourdough):
tomatoes were so juicy and sweet as if they were freshly hand picked to order. Burrata
was pillowy soft, creamy and milky too. Nothing beats fresh ingredients so it’s
a highly recommended dish.
Poached
salmon, smoked egg gribiche, ricotta salata, rocket leaves (AUD$19, came with
toasted sourdough too but not stated on the menu): quite an interesting
combination of moist and tender salmon, smoky and rich egg gribiche covered by
a mountain of rocket leaves. Salmon didn’t have much flavour but the rocket salad
was a tad too salty. A little more balance is needed on seasoning but overall
it’s still an enjoyable dish.
Baked
slow eggs, ham hock, beans, kransky sausage, brioche, Parmesan (AUD$19): a
flavoursome baked goodness with the right amount of saltiness. Really loved the
perfectly cooked eggs and all other ingredients that made the whole thing more
complete, only if the sauce was thicker to cling to the toasted bread even
better.
Cool
vibes and above average food that’s awesome for a brunch date. A fuller
description of each dish on the menu would be appreciated though, as my friend
and I wouldn’t have ordered so many items with bread (particularly the tomato
salad and poached salmon) had we known earlier.
