Not quite there yet - Fat Duck Den Chinese Cuisine

It’s time for another mother-and-daughter date and I have picked the newly opened Fat Duck Den Chinese Cuisine for our most recent culinary adventure.

I got attracted to this place partly because of their classy and elegant interior. The vibe that most office ladies and teenage girls would love.

Doing a la carte can be a pain at times when your mom is too easygoing so we had a dinner set for 2 where everything from the starter to dessert has been decided for us. Problems solved right away.

The two Beijing cuisine assorted appetizers were greenbean noodle with shredded chicken in sesame sauce and salted pork jelly. The former was a bit bland and the jelly was more on the salty side but it went well with the vinegar.

Whoever created this drunken Alaskan king crab legs with plums is just brilliant. Fresh, tender and sweet crab meat soaked in Chinese wine was a love at first bite and I couldn’t help wolving down most of them.

Double-boiled soup was pipping hot and hearty. Hongkonger just love soup don’t we?

Haven’t had braised pork balls in soy sauce for a while so I was longing for it. Unfortunately the meat ball tasted like a mixture of corned beef and spam to my surprise.

Here you can see some bits are more pinkish than some other parts. I sincerely hope that I was wrong but it really tasted a bit funny for my liking.

Sautéed jade sprouts with cordyceps flower made a nice save with the well seasoned and slightly bouncy fungus.

You can’t go wrong with Beijing dumpling in supreme soup and this one was just fine, only the soup was kinda tasteless.

We had almond jelly as our dessert and too much syrup from the canned fruits was added. Okay maybe I am too whiny about the food being either too salty or not seasoned enough but this is way too sweet. Just replace the canned fruits with fresh seasonal fruits and it’ll be perfect.

As my subject suggests, overall the food was alright but more attention is needed on the bits and pieces to make the customers come back for more.
